For Immediate Release

Sat Aug 10, 2013

Victoria, B.C.: In an attempt to educate the local healthcare community about the changing medical cannabis industry, the Victoria Cannabis Buyers Club will start hosting quarterly information sessions starting Fri Sept 13. These free information sessions will be an opportunity for medical professionals of various disciplines to get together to learn about developments in law, science and the medical cannabis industry. The first meeting will feature veteran lawyer Kirk Tousaw and will be from 1 to 2:30 in the Haro Room of the Cadboro Commons Building at the University of Victoria.

Kirk is representing the VCBC in the Owen Smith bakery trial, which made cannabis extracts legal for patients under the current MMAR program. An appeal in that trial will be heard this fall. While some of the discussion will review the current program, much of the talk will focus upon the new regulations being brought into effect on April 1, 2014.

With the CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta recently turning the other cheek and coming out in support of the medical uses of cannabis, many medical professionals are starting to realize the vast potential of this plant. Now with 43 cannabis food and skin products, the VCBC has gained a great deal of knowledge and experience in the past 17 years with using this plant as medicine and is happy to share that information to the medical community.
