Victoria, B.C.: On Weds Sept 4, the International Hempology 101 Society will be celebrating 18 years of activism in Victoria by hosting an annual march from City Hall to the BC Legislature Buildings. Lead by our mascot, Herb, many of the Hempologists will be dressed up for the postcard picture taken on the front steps of the Legislature. The groups starts gathering at City Hall at 7pm, then quickly takes off so the picture can be taken before the sunlight is gone.

Trophy bongs will also be handed out that night to the 4 winners of this year’s REACH FOR THE POT tournament. REACH FOR THE POT is the world’s only cannabis game show, hosted by Ted Smith, and this was the 9th year eight teams have completed for the prize trophy bongs. An award, the Jack Herer Bowl, for the tournament MVP (Most Valuable Pothead) will also be handed out. Finally, prizes will be given to the winners of annual contests held in July for the best pipe, bong, t-shirt, song/poem and joint roller.

Hempology 101 is growing quickly. With the largest student club at the University of Victoria, the UVSS Hempology 101 club also starts meeting every week at 4:20pm in the center of campus on Sept 4. The following week the free, non-credit lecture series start again, with 22 one hour classes focused on all aspects of cannabis, from ancient uses of hemp, to current medical science, to legal developments being taught from 3 to 4 every Weds at Cinecenta.

With the publishing of HEMPOLOGY 101: THE HISTORY AND USES OF CANNABIS SATIVA last year, the society’s general manager, Ted Smith, has been touring across the country stirring up the pot. Now with 7 students clubs at post-secondary schools in 6 provinces, it seems the group is poised to expand to even more institutions of higher learning.
